The Playstation Vita was a great yet only fairly successful Handheld. The idea of bringing handheld games to the TV with a device was not new and practiced before by Nintendo e.g. with their Game Boy Player. Sonys approach was fairly successful - just as the handheld. However, the device also enabled players to stream PS3 and PS4 games to another TV, which was a good sales argument and gave the device a push.
