As an affordable version of the PC Engine, the Shuttle Engine was added to the already complicated range of NECs PC Engine devices. With its futuristic design which still appears kind of strange these days as well as a cheaper price tag, NEC tried to get casual, younger gamers. As the expansion port is missing, there is no possibility to use the popular CD-Rom units with the Shuttle. This limits the Shuttle to HU-Cards for which it is still an interesting yet quite expansive alternative to the “normal” PC Engine.
