The PIXTER from Fisher Price / Mattel was one of the early handhelds with a touch screen. As the name suggest, it focussed on the creative side of kids, with gaming ideas in the background. The device is quite clumsy with only average performance for that time. Still, Mattel was quite successful, for which a full line of devices from this family is proof. Well known franchises from Disney as well as Mattel found their way into cartridges for this system. The first versions only had black and white screens. The Pixter 2.0 still only had a black and white screen, but offered a more portable design.
