Segas Mega Drive was thrown in the 16-Bit race to compete worlwide with the Super Nintendo / Super Famicom and some other, smaller rivals. It was among the most successful system for Sega as a hardware-producer. Neither the Saturn nor the Dreamcast could follow that success. This was the first edition, which was quickly succeeded by the smaller Mega Drive 2, which was responsible for the bigger part of the overall system-sales.
