Segas Mega Drive was thrown in the 16-Bit race to compete worlwide with the Super Nintendo/Super Famicom and some other, smaller rivals. It was among the most successful system for Sega as a hardware-producer. Neither the Saturn nor the Dreamcast could follow that success. This was the first edition, which was quickly succeeded by the smaller Mega Drive 2, which was responsible for the bigger part of the overall system-sales.

Segas Mega Drive wurde ins 16-Bit Rennen geschickt, um weltweit gegen das Super Nintendo/Super Famicom und einige kleinere Rivalen anzutreten. Es war eines der erfolgreichsten Systeme fuer Sega. Weder der Saturn noch die Dreamcast konnten den Erfolg wiederholen. Es handelt sich hier um die erste Ausfuehrung, die recht schnell vom kleineren Mega Drive 2 abgeloest wurde, welches dann fuer den Grossteil der weltweiten Verkaeufe verantwortlicht war.
